About Littleover nursing home
Littleover Nursing Home offers long-term and respite care for up to 40 male or female elderly residents with most single rooms including an en-suite. Originally a Victorian home, it has been tastefully extended and converted. There are three communal lounges in total, and the main lounge has an atrium glass roof and doors leading to a paved patio area. There is a separate dining room which also contains a small kitchenette where relatives can make themselves a hot drink.
The home has two lifts, one of which can accommodate a stretcher, enabling us to safely transfer residents onto beds in the upstairs bedrooms. One of the lounge areas is designated as a sensory area with equipment that enhances the environment for those residents who may benefit from it. There is a small quiet seated area for residents and relatives to use if they'd like a private reflective area.
The home has its own hairdressing salon and a hairdresser who visits weekly. The salon may also be used by residents who wish to arrange for their own hairdresser to visit.
THE CARE WE PROVIDE
We are a general nursing home providing care for the elderly who are unable to remain in their own homes or residential care due to the severity of their medical condition. This may include conditions such as stroke, Parkinson's disease, and any other life-limiting illnesses.
We have a contract with the NHS that enables us to admit residents with a high level of need. Our 'Any Qualified Provider' status and Derbyshire End of Life Award demonstrate that we deliver a high standard of care through a specialised team. Our nurses are all experienced in caring for terminally ill residents who may require specialist care. We also have three enhanced beds which are supported by the Palliative care team at the Royal Derby Hospital. These beds are available to residents who need short term care while alternative care is arranged, or who are there for end of life support.
We have an aligned GP surgery that oversees all of our resident's medical needs and visits them weekly or as required. The attached pharmacy caters for our resident's prescriptions and delivers them directly to the home. We can also provide private chiropody care.
Professional staff
Our staff at Littleover are fully qualified, experienced and available 24/7. We specialise in palliative care and are dedicated to helping our residents spend their time in comfort and dignity. We have a dedicated team of registered nurses led by a nurse manager, her deputy and a full-time administrator. In turn, they are supported by care assistants.
We have links with the University of Derby and our registered nurses mentor student nurses, enabling them to gain valuable experience in care of the elderly.
Our accommodation
The single occupancy rooms at Littleover are light, spacious and have been individually designed to create a homelier environment which reflects the ambiance of the original building. The rooms are fully equipped to deal with all nursing needs with profiling beds, pressure mattresses and a nurse call system. The en-suite rooms are designed to accommodate residents with a high level of need that may require the use of specialist equipment, such as a hoist.
Nutritious meals
Our catering manager, ensures that all food provided is freshly prepared on a daily basis and also caters for our residents with specific dietary needs. We have a five-star food hygiene rating from the Environmental Health Agency.
Meals are modified as necessary for those with specific medical needs. All residents are given a choice of meals which can be served to them in their room or they can enjoy it in our recently refurbished dining room.
Regular activities
Helping our residents stay social and active is important for their overall wellbeing. Our activities coordinator at Littleover ensures that the residents have access to a varied programme of activities and events that enable them to maintain a level of social interaction and fitness.
Past activities and events have included dominoes, karaoke, arts and crafts and coffee mornings. Our fortnightly Zumba classes are very popular. Relatives can also enjoy our larger events such as Bonfire night and our Christmas parties.
Convenient location
Situated in an extended Victorian property, Littleover nursing home is located in Littleover, Derbyshire, roughly four miles from Derby itself. The home is set back from the main road allowing for ample parking in the grounds (at the owner's risk) and is easily accessible via the A38 or A50. It is also on the No 7 bus route.
There are several shops within walking distance. Our administrator is happy to arrange delivery of a daily newspaper, charged directly to the resident.
